Marc Rijnbergen (28), Vessel Assurance Co-ordinator

“I was on board when Audacia set sail for the first time”

I started working for Allseas in April 2007 as Mate / DPO trainee. It was the first time I had worked in the offshore pipelay industry, as previously I sailed as a mate in the merchant marine.

My first trip with Allseas was on Calamity Jane, and straight away I felt very comfortable. The work environment was very friendly, but with a professional attitude. My work scope on Calamity Jane  reached from DPO through to lifesaving, safety and navigation.

After a couple of trips I transferred to Audacia  which was at Keppel Verolme for conversion. During the conversion we made a set-up for the safety / life saving on board, which was a great challenge. I was on board when she set sail for the first time for DP trials as Audacia.

After a while sailing on Audacia, I decided to leave her and took up a position in the QHSE Department of the Delft Office as Vessel Assurance Co-ordinator. This means that I still go out from time to time to visit the vessels to perform audits in accordance with International Safety Management Standards: ISO 9001 and 14001.
I’m currently still developing my skills under the supervision of one of my colleagues.
