Lorelay is a versatile vessel optimised for the execution of small and medium diameter pipeline projects of any length in unlimited water depths, and for associated work such as the installation of risers and subsea protection frames.
As the world’s first pipelay vessel to operate on full dynamic positioning (DP), Lorelay represented a new generation of offshore pipelaying vessel. Her ship-shape allows for a high transit speed, while a large pipe storage capacity means she is much less dependent on offshore pipe supply. Due to her excellent workability, Lorelay has made her mark worldwide.
Precise manoeuvring on full DP allows Lorelay to work safely in congested areas and lay pipes in very deep water. Pipeline start-ups and lay-downs are executed in very quick time ensuring any disruption to any other activities near platforms is minimised.
Lorelay has laid many deepwater steel pipelines. In 1996 she extended the limits of S-lay installation, rewriting the industry record books in the process, by laying pipe at a depth of 1,645 m (5,400 ft).
