During the final stage of my Mechanical Engineering studies, in which I specialised in Mechatronics, at the Delft University of Technology, I started looking for a challenging job. With my strong affinity for technology, I was looking for a company where I could apply my theoretical knowledge to day-to-day practice. Through an open job application, I landed a job at Allseas Engineering B.V. in Delft.
I started to work in the Innovations Department as an R&D Engineer. A young and dynamic department where you work in teams with the right know-how, or completely independently, in order to arrive at concrete results. In that job, I worked on a wide range of subjects, varying from small but often advanced modifications and applications to large structural changes that have more impact on the functioning of Allseas' vessels. I also worked on the further development of one of the processes on Solitaire, the most advanced pipelaying ship in the world, in order to realise a further optimisation of the production process on board. After just a few months, I was sent to the Gulf of Mexico to gain some hands-on experience.
At present, I work in the Pipeline Production Department (PPD) as Department Head. A department where all production activities (welding, NDT and coating) are prepared and co-ordinated. All this to ensure the vessels can lay pipe at the highest lay rates and with the least amount of downtime. At the PPD you are heavily involved in the day-to-day production of the vessels, whilst in the background a continuous drive to keep on developing and improving is on-going.
Within Allseas, the expectations are high, but on the other hand, you are given responsibility within the company right from the beginning. Besides the opportunity to develop yourself in various areas, you also face challenges where contacts with other professional project teams are of central importance. Operating in different parts of the world has given Allseas a very international character. Because you often work together with the vessels, a certain degree of flexibility is required.
