Statoil has awarded the Swiss-based Allseas Group S.A. a contract for the transportation and installation of three platform topsides on the Johan Sverdrup field, with an option to install the interconnecting bridges. The topsides will be installed by Pioneering Spirit, Allseas’ dynamically positioned single-lift installation/decommissioning and pipelay vessel, which is currently being completed in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The Johan Sverdrup field is situated in the central part of the North Sea, approximately 140 km off the coast of Stavanger, Norway. Pioneering Spirit  will install the topsides on steel jackets for the drilling, processing and living quarter platforms, with topsides weights ranging from approximately 19,500 t to 26,000 t. The installations begin with the drilling platform topside in 2018, and the processing and living quarter topsides will follow in 2019. 

Pioneering Spirit  is 382 m long and 124 m wide, will have a topsides lift capacity of 48,000 t and a jacket lift capacity of 25,000 t.
