Pipelay operations for the Porthos carbon capture and storage (CCS) project have resumed. On 11 July, Allseas' pipelay vessel Lorelay  restarted installation of the 20-kilometre offshore pipeline that will transport captured CO₂ from the Rotterdam industrial hub to storage reservoirs beneath the North Sea.

Allseas is proud to play a central role in this landmark project – one of Europe’s most advanced CCS initiatives – which will help decarbonise Dutch industry and contribute to the Netherlands’ climate goals.

Work was temporarily paused on 7 May due to a technical issue with on-board tensioning equipment. Lorelay  returned to port for inspection, repair, and full system testing. With all systems cleared and operational, pipelay is now back on track.

Importantly, other offshore activities continued during the pause, ensuring no impact on the project schedule. During this time, Lorelay  supported the installation of the riser and clamp systems at the P18-A platform – where CO₂ will be injected into depleted gas fields.

Once pipelay is complete, the pipeline will be trenched and buried along its full route for added stability and protection.

We’re proud to be part of this project that puts the Netherlands at the forefront of Europe’s carbon capture strategy – and showcases how Allseas' offshore expertise supports the transition to a lower-carbon future.
